Choreography and Act Development Workshop with Vivian Tam
Sunday, March 15th – 3:30-5PM
$40
We’re not performing aerial for the sport of it. We’re also not watching aerial for the physical competition.
This workshop will guide you into developing finessed choreography ready for your next show. Choreography is what tightly wraps your act into a nice package for your audience. I will work with you and all that you have to offer as a physical performer and your apparatus of choice. We will do a lot of improvisation and experimentation with guided prompts to develop and create new unique movements and characters. Come ready with a couple songs that inspire you. Come with an outfit that speaks to you. Or, just come with an open heart and be ready for the movement that comes from within.
Vivian Tam is an inspiring Seattle-based aerialist. While specializing in aerial silks and hoop, she balances grace, athleticism, and risk with extreme finesse. A versatile character performer, she can deliver a comedic piece and in the next breath, tantalize audience members with a sensual aerial dance. She is always set to light up the stage, “delivering an elegant aerial act, twisting and pretzeling her way up…” according to the Seattle Times.
Vivian began her aerial training in Los Angeles. After relocating to Seattle, she joined up with Lara Paxton’s “The Aerialistas.” The troupe performed their signature duo aerial and dance spectacles in Europe. Vivian has performed at numerous event functions and on many stages in the Pacific Northwest and across the US, collaborating with a variety of companies and artists. Vivian is a veteran varieté artist at the annual Moisture Festival in Seattle, presenting new aerial acts each season. She was also a resident aerialist at the Suite Lounge for three years. In 2014, Vivian was selected to present her solo silks number at the Aerial Acrobatics Arts Festival in Denver. Since 2016, she has been dazzling the high seas with AIDA Cruise as a solo aerialist.
Community is important to Vivian as she owes much of her success to her mentors, teachers, and supporters. She is passionate about sharing her skills and experience as a performing and teaching artist. She enjoys connecting students, professional artists, and enthusiasts alike from all arenas. Vivian travels frequently to teach workshops and has produced local shows in the past showcasing artists in circus, dance, and music.
Vivian holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Arts from the University of California, Irvine. She lives in Redmond, WA and considers cake to be the breakfast, lunch, and dinner of champions. She does not bake.
